    En HARDO X450 is a chromium-molybdenum alloy steel designed for use in highly stressed components and applications that require superior over-all properties. It is a molybdenum-enhanced industrial grade steel, and is ideally suited for applications that require high-temperature strength and corrosion resistance.
    
    The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) created the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) series to define materials of similar composition and properties. The AISI 4130 has been assigned a unique designation, ASTM A-229, and is the equivalent of En HARDO X450. The steel is a medium-carbon, low-alloy steel that contains chromium and molybdenum, along with other trace elements such as sulfur, phosphorus and silicon.
    
    The AISI 4130 alloy steel is suitable for a wide range of mechanical applications, such as highly stressed components in the automotive and aerospace industries. It can be galvanized to increase durability and strength in corrosive environments, and is often used in both hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
    
    The composition of the AISI 4130 alloy steel gives it good weldability and machinability and superior strength. It has a tensile strength of at least 90,000 psi and a yield strength of 45,000 psi. It is also capable of being hot worked up to a maximum of 530°C, then heat treated for added hardness and wear resistance.
    
    The ASTM A-229 designation for AISI 4130 steel is the equivalent of En HARDO X450 and provides assurance that the material meets certain chemical and physical properties. The alloy is frequently used as a base material in a variety of heavy-duty applications such as automotive, aerospace and military projects.
