HARDO X450 equivalent astm material equivalent
ASTM A450 is a steel specification that covers several grades of carbon and alloy steel tubes. The standard covers the sizes and mechanical properties of tubes and is associated with ASTM A53, a tube used for pressure applications. The ASTM A450 designation covers three grades, X42, X46, and X52, which have different minimum ultimate tensile strengths. Depending on the application, different alloying elements are added, such as chromium, molybdenum, manganese, and vanadium, whose levels also determine the minimum ultimate tensile strength.
Hardox 450 is a wear-resistant steel produced by SSAB, a steel production company. It is formed in an oxygenated atmosphere and features high performance, long durability, and an impeccable surface finish. It has a minimum yield strength of 450 MPa, a guaranteed impact toughness at temperature of -40°C (-40°F), and very good weldability. Hardox 450 is used in various applications in the energy industry, machinery manufacturing, heavy machinery, and off-road vehicles.
The two materials, Hardox 450 and ASTM A450, can be used interchangeably in certain applications. Both materials have similar properties and have a minimum ultimate tensile strength of 450 MPa. The differences between the two are not so evident, but they are still significant. ASTM A450 is composed of alloyed carbon and manganese, while Hardox 450 contain alloyed chromium, molybdenum, vanadium, and other elements. The endurance and operating life of these two materials also differ. ASTM A450 is able to withstand better wear and tear, making it a more optimal choice in longer-term applications compared to Hardox 450. Furthermore, Hardox 450 has guaranteed improved cooling properties, making it better suited for welding applications with thinner material than ASTM A450.
Despite the differences between Hardox 450 and ASTM A450, both of these materials can be used in certain applications with very few trade-offs. Although their capabilities vary, both of these materials are tough and can withstand corrosion and wear and tear.
