HARDO X400 properties equivalent indian standard

India is an industrialized nation with an abundance of raw materials, both natural and processed. Steel is one such material that is used extensively in the construction industry, from structures, buildings and bridges to automotive parts, appliance and industrial equipment, and more. There is a wide range of steel grades and compositions, each with its own unique set of properties and characteristics, making it important to match the right steel grade to the intended application. HARDOX 400 is a steel grade produced by SSAB in Sweden, and is one of the most popular proprietary steel grades used in the construction and engineering industry. HARDOX 400 is an abrasion-resistant steel with a hardness of 400 HBW (Brinell Hardness) which could be equated to Indian standard, IS 2062/ E250.

IS 2062/ E250 is a popular steel grade in the Indian market, and is equivalent to HARDOX 400 in terms of mechanical properties. It is a cold rolled low carbon steel with a nominal hardness of 250 HBW, where HBW stands for Brinell Hardness. The steel has good strength, ductility and hardness, and is suitable for welding and cold forming. It is widely used for making components in general engineering applications and sheet metal fabrications, such as automotive components, tanks, frames, chassis, frames and machine parts.

IS 2062/ E250 has excellent weldability, leading to minimal temperature distortions in joints and minimal warping of the finished component. It is sold in sheet and plate form, and is available in thicknesses ranging from 0.10mm to 100mm. The mechanical properties of IS 2062/ E250 and HARDOX 400 are very similar – tensile strength ranges between 400 MPa and 550 MPa for Hardox and between 400 MPa and 510 MPa for IS 2062/ E250; yield strength is 340 MPa for Hardox and between 240 MPa to 310 MPa for IS 2062/ E250, whilst elongation is 17-21% for Hardox and 18-22% for IS 2062/ E250.

Both HARDOX 400 and IS 2062/ E250 are suited for a wide range of industry applications including for agricultural equipment, construction machinery, and conveyor systems. They are perfectly suited for applications where parts and components require a combination of high strength and weldability, good impact toughness and long service life.

The overall composition and mechanical properties of both HARDOX 400 and IS 2062/ E250 make them equivalent types of steel and suitable for a range of industrial applications. The choice between either should be decided by taking into account requirements such as component design, welding and fabrication requirements, end use application, and overall cost. In some cases, HARDOX 400 might be slightly more expensive than IS 2062/ E250 due to applied surcharges, however, it is a superior grade of steel with superior properties, making it worth considering when budget allows.
