NM400 equivalent steel grade
1027NM 400 is a quenched and tempered abrasion-resistant steel with a nominal hardness of 400 HBW. It offers excellent bendability, weldability and impact toughness. During its development, NM 400 was designed to keep its strength while having thicknesses as little as 3mm.
NM 400 abrasion-resistant steel is an alloy steel that provides exceptional wear and sliding abrasion performance, due to its wide range of hardness. Through its improved cracking strength, NM 400 is also very crack-resistant. Because of its optimized formula and heat treatment, it can provide a hardness range of up to 400 HBW.
In comparison to its predecessor NM 450, this steel is both stronger and thinner due to its improved plasticity and higher forming speed. It also provides a higher wear resistance with its improved hardness.
NM 400 has become a popular choice for those who require excellent wear and moderate impact resistance. It is suitable for applications such as material handling, mining and automotive, and is also used in applications where there may be exposure to temperatures up to 400°C. It also offers good workability in its sheet and plate form, making it simple to use.
The equivalent steel grade to NM 400 is an abrasion-resistant steel grade called SSAB XAR 500 (SWEDEN). This steel grade provides an excellent balance of hardness and tenacity and produces fine grain sizes, offering improved weldability and an increased resistance to mechanical wear. It is ideal for applications where the need for wear resistance is greater than the impact resistance.
SSAB XAR 500 is perfect for applications such as material handling, aggregate transport, earthmoving and mining operations, as well as components for railway and agricultural equipment. It provides excellent wear and high abrasion resistance at temperatures of up to 400°C. This steel grade is an economical alternative to NM 400 and allows for lighter constructions and simplified manufacturing processes without compromising its wear performance.
When it comes to abrasion-resistant steels, SSAB XAR 500 is an economical alternative to NM 400. This steel grade offers excellent weldability, formability, and wearability. Its high hardness, fine microstructure, and low carbon content makes it a very good choice for thin plates and sheets. It is ideal for applications that require durability, strength, and excellent sliding abrasion performance.
