what is NM 500 equivalent steel grade

NM 500 is a wear-resistant steel plate with a nominal hardness of 500 HBW. It combines high strength, good toughness and excellent weldability.

The equivalent grade of NM 500 steel is abrasion resistant steel with a nominal hardness of 750 HBW. It is typically used in harsh environment applications like mining, conveying, buckets, ripper blades, crushers, paving buckets, etc.

This grade exhibits the same strength, welding and cutting characteristics as NM 500. It also has excellent resistance to Abrasion, impact and compression.

NM 750 is ideal for applications that require high wear-resistance and impact resistance such as construction equipment and automotive manufacturing. It is also used in agricultural equipment like tractor blades, ploughs, etc. It offers benefits in terms of wear protection and cost savings due to weight reduction and extended service life.

NM 750 is often used in applications where continual wear and tear is expected side by side with high impact, like breaker blades, metal recycling, and asphalt recycling.

It is important to note that NM 750 is not a suitable substitute for NM 500 in applications that require high strength-to-weight ratios, as the weight of NM 750 is more than that of NM 500.
