    NM 400 is an incredibly durable and hard-wearing steel produced by Swedish steelmaker SSAB that is regularly used in a wide range of heavy-duty applications such as mining, construction, agricultural and industrial equipment. A combination of the higher carbon content, chemical composition and the heat treatment process results in an enhanced superior tensile strength and greater wear resistance.
    
    Designed for applications where high abrasion and wear is expected, NM 400 offers up to 400HBW ( Brinell hardness) which is four times harder than mild steel. This property makes it far superior to conventional Mild Steel and is the reason why NM 400 is often employed in Abrasion Resistant (AR) steel applications.
    
    When compared to mild steel and other AR steels, NM 400 offers a theoretical density difference of up to 12% while maintaining excellent weldability, thanks to its low carbon composition. The strong surface hardness of NM 400 enables users to save money and reduce the life cycle costs of their equipments due to less frequent maintenance requirements.
    
    The durability of NM 400 also means that it can be used for a variety of heavy-duty applications, ranging from dump trucks, buckets and bin liners to earth moving bucket lips and cutting edges. Additionally, with superior ductile properties and its excellent combination of formability, weldability and structural strength, NM 400 is a popular choice in bridge and crane construction.
