Which material is NM450 equivalent


    
    NM450, also known as XAR450, is a specialised wear-resistant steel for industrial use. It is a martensitic heat-treatable steel which has been developed for applications where high wear resistance, combined with good toughness, is needed. It offers an excellent combination of exceptional wear resistance, high strength and good toughness, making it an excellent choice for applications which require wear protection.
    
    NM450 has not been given an official grade designation, although it is sometimes referred to as XAR450 or NM 450. This is due to the lack of an international standard to which it can be assigned. Despite this, it does have established chemical compositions and mechanical properties which are generally accepted for specific applications.
    
    Due to its exceptional wear-resistant qualities and its good toughness, NM450 steel is ideal for applications which require wear protection. It is typically used in agricultural machinery, mining, forestry and construction equipment, as well as parts of vehicles where wear and tear are a major problem.
    
    NM450 is highly resistant to abrasion and wear in relatively heavy loads, due to its very high hardness (450 HBW). This is despite its relatively low tensile strength and yield strength. Additionally, NM450 has a very high impact toughness and good fatigue strength, making it very suitable for higher loading applications.
    
    The chemical composition of NM450 steel is as follows: C (0.25-0.35%), Si (0.90-1.20%), Mn (1.00-1.20%), P (0.035%), S (0.040%), Ni (0.15-0.50%), Cr (1.10-1.50%), Mo (0.15-0.25%), B (≤0.003%), Cu (≤0.20%) and Al (≤0.01%). The mechanical properties of NM450 steel include an ultimate tensile strength (UTS) of 760 MPa and a yield strength (0.2% offset) of 600 MPa. The hardness of NM450 steel is between 450 and 550 HBW.
    
    NM450 is often compared to another wear-resistant steel, known as AR450 (also known as S450). AR450 is a type of abrasion-resistant steel which has been developed by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). It offers very similar wear characteristics to NM450, however, its chemical composition is different. The chemical composition of AR450 is as follows: C (0.38-0.43%), Si (0.90-1.20%), Mn (1.50-2.00%), P (≤0.030%), S (≤0.030%), Cr (1.10-1.50%) and Mo (0.30-0.50%).
    
    Due to its excellent wear resistance, as well as its good toughness and fatigue strength, NM450 is an important material for industrial applications. It offers superior performance over traditional steels, such as mild steel and even over other high strength steels, such as AR450. This makes NM450 an excellent choice for applications where wear resistance, combined with good toughness and strength, is required.
