NM500 properties equivalent steel material in Indian standard
.Indian standard steel material IS 2062 is an equivalent to Japanese grade NM500. IS 2062 is a carbon steel grade for general structural purposes with a yield strength of 250-460MPa and a tensile strength varying between 410-800MPa depending on the thickness and grade.
IS 2062 is divided into four levels based on its tensile strength:
• Grade A: 410MPa
• Grade B: 480MPa
• Grade C: 550MPa
• Grade E: above 550MPa
IS 2062 is largely composed of Carbon, Silicon and Manganese, with smaller amounts of other alloying elements. The Carbon content can range from 0.20 % to 2.50%, the Silicon content ranges from 0.60 % to 1.60%, the Manganese content can range from 0.90 % to 1.70% and Nickel content as low as 0.30%.
IS 2062 is an ideal choice for applications that require strength combined with durability and good weldability. As an equivalent to Japanese grade NM500, IS 2062 steel offers excellent wear resistance and can be used to produce components that are more resistant to scratches, abrasions, corrosion and wear. It offers great ductility and durability even at low temperatures and has good forging, machining and forming properties.
The high yield strength of IS 2062 makes it ideal for structural components and general fabrication. Its versatility makes it a popular choice in many industries, including heavy engineering, light engineering, automotive, construction, agricultural and marine. It is often used to make components for bridges, buildings and other structures.
IS 2062 is also used extensively in off-shore rigs and other oil & gas production equipment as well as other areas like gas turbines and power plants. In addition, IS 2062 is finding new applications in the renewable energy sector like offshore wind turbines and onshore wind towers.
IS 2062 is a versatile and robust steel that can be tailored to most applications. It is an ideal choice if you are looking to achieve good wear resistance and hot-rolling properties without breaking your budget.
