NM450 equivalent European standard *

(any topic)

The European standard is known as the EN10025 and is a common structural steel used in many parts of the world. It was designed with weldability and good mechanical properties in mind, and is largely used in the production of machinery, for buildings and for general engineering purposes. It’s composed of three parts and each part has different grades that all meet the same requirements.

The EN10025 is a grade of steel that is highly weldable and ductile and has excellent bending properties and machinability. It can be used in the construction of multiple types of structures, including bridges, buildings and even ships. The steel has excellent strength and high formability. It can also be treated to improve its surface properties, making it easier to paint and weld.

The first part of the EN10025 is S235, which describes specific strength requirements and most commonly used for structural work. The material comes in normalised and thermo-mechanically rolled forms and is often referred to as S235JR. The second part is S275, which almost has the same properties as S235 but with a very slight increase in strength. It also has a lower carbon content, making it suitable for non-structural work such as tanks, reservoirs, pipes and bridges. The third part is S355, which is the grade mentioned when talking about higher strength and higher load-bearing steel. It has a minimum yield strength of 355MPa, making it the strongest grade of steel.

The EN10025 is one of the most commonly used structural steels in Europe and is usually compared with other materials, such as ASTM A36 and Grades of steel from China, such as NM450.

NM450 is also known as wear-resistant steel and is a common structural steel for various applications. It has a higher hardness and a certain wear resistance compared to EN10025. However, it only has a yield strength of 450MPa, which is around the same level as S235JR but nowhere near to S355. NM450 also has a lower ductility compared to EN10025, making it less suitable for applications in which bending and machinability are required.

In conclusion, NM450 is not an equivalent European standard to EN10025 and should not be used interchangeably.
Though both steels offer different advantages, the EN10025 is more widely used for its excellent physical properties, such as its weldability, machinability and bending properties.
