NM400 Grade equivalent
NM400 is a high strength wear-resistant steel developed by JFE Steel Corporation in Japan. It is often used to manufacture parts that must withstand high abrasion and impact. This material is ideal for applications such as bulldozer blades, excavator buckets, and crusher liners. It is also often used in components used in mining and construction equipment, such as cylinder liners, crusher hammers, and wear plates.
NM400 is regarded as a substitute for the more commonly used grade of steel known as “AR400”. AR400 is also a high strength Ni-Cr-Mo alloy wear-resistant steel, however its hardness is more limited than that of NM400. While NM400 provides an excellent level of wear resistance in most applications, AR400 is better suited for lighter duty work such as agricultural machinery.
Despite its high wear-resistance, NM400 is still relatively lightweight. The application of this material often reduces weight in machined parts which can both lower operational costs, as well as reduce the risk of fatigue failure over time. It is also highly formable and weldable which makes it an ideal choice for a variety of applications.
NM400 is typically used in applications that involve abrasive and/or impact wear, such as excavator buckets, bulldozer blades, truck beds, and construction and mining equipment. In addition, this material is often used for liners in crushing devices, as well as wear plates in items such as conveyors, vibratory equipment, and feeders.
Due to its excellent wear-resistance qualities, NM400 is widely accepted as a substitute for the widely used grade of steel known as AR400. It is typically used in components or parts that are subjected to high levels of abrasion and/or impact wear. It is formable and weldable which makes it a popular choice for parts that need to be forged and shaped. NM400 is also lighter than AR400 which makes it an ideal choice for machined parts that need to be kept lightweight while still providing exceptional wear-resistance.
