Hardox 500 wear steel equivalent
HARDOX 500 wear steel is a high-hardness, wear-resistant steel with a nominal 500 HBW hardness. It is well suited for applications that demand higher wear resistance than conventional steel. In comparison to conventional low-alloyed steels, HARDOX 500 wear steel offers superior performance and better component life.
The wear steel has been developed to provide optimized properties for extended service life. It is used in heavy duty conditions where its superior properties provide excellent protection and increased resistance to wear. In comparison to conventional steel, HARDOX 500 wear steel offers superior wear resistance, improved fatigue performance and a longer service life.
HARDOX 500 wear steel is widely used in the production of ground engaging tools used in earthmoving and construction equipment, such as buckets, scrapers, blades, and rippers. It is also used for other parts subject to wear, such as wear strips and track pads used in construction and conveyor belts. In addition, it is used for power shovels, crusher and mill liners, buckets, and dump bodies among many other applications.
The wear steel is available in different forms, such as plate, sheet, sections, tubes and blocks. It can be cut, welded, machined and formed. HARDOX 500 wear steel can be ordered in thicknesses ranging between 2.0mm and 160 mm, with widths up to 3300 mm and lengths up to 14630 mm. It can also be ordered in a range of heat treatments and thicknesses to suit specific applications.
The properties of HARDOX 500 wear steel got even better when its types Hardox 550 and Hardox 600 were developed. These have the same high-hardness and wear-resistant properties as HARDOX 500 but with even higher wear resistance. The development of higher wear-resistant properties was possible because of the addition of new alloys, such as niobium and vanadium, providing a higher wear resistance compared to the conventional manganese-alloyed steels.
HARDOX 500 wear steel has proven itself in numerous applications and is, therefore, the preferred choice for many. It is suited for the most extreme environments, providing protection and resistance to wear, fatigue, and impact. The wear steel has an excellent price-to-performance ratio and, compared to other wear-resistant materials, provides greater energy efficiency. By using HARDOX 500 wear steel components, companies can improve service life and increase productivity whilst also reducing repair costs.
