NM450 properties equivalent steel material in Indian standard
The Indian Standard (IS) equivalent of the NM450 material is IS 2062. This steel is a type of plain carbon steel with a higher resistance to wear and corrosion in adverse conditions. It is a popular material in a range of industries due to its excellent characteristics, such as high tensile strength, durability and corrosion resistance.
The composition of IS 2062 is composed primarily of iron, manganese and carbon. Further, its properties are enhanced by other elements like silicon, sulphur and phosphorus. The alloyed steel exhibits excellent strength, toughness and fatigue properties. Moreover, the properties are enhanced further at elevated temperatures and can remain stable under a variety of environmental conditions.
The designation of IS 2062 typically consists of four-digit numbers which refer to the standards set by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). The first two digits of the designation refer to the alloying elements and the third and fourth digits refer to the chemical composition of the alloy. The IS 2062 contains a concept of chemical or strength grade which follows the same pattern for any alloy of the same chemical composition.
The NM450 is known for its wear and corrosion resistance at extreme temperatures and harsh conditions. The higher tensile strength of IS 2062 helps the material to perform better in these conditions and ensures that it lasts for a longer period of time. Additionally, the material exhibits strong weldability and formability properties.
The NM450 is an ideal material of choice for components which will face extreme temperatures and heavy loads in certain applications. Therefore, the IS 2062 is a suitable equivalent material in terms of physical and chemical properties in the Indian market.
